Packrafting, Fishing and Hiking in Ostmarka, Norway: Episode 1
Packrafting, Fishing and Hiking in Ostmarka, Norway: Episode 1.
4 days of packrafting, fishing and hiking in the beautiful national park of Østmarka. Ostmarka is located about 20 mins south of Oslo and is only 40 minutes drive from Gardermoen Airport.
It costs about £60 for 4 days fishing and as most of Scandinavia you can camp where you like. There is a fire ban all over Norway through the summer months so make sure you've got something to cook on.
First two nights spent on a lake called Floyta and what a great campsite it was.
Easiest way to visit these place is with a hire car, although expensive it gives you the ability to visit many beautiful places in the Ostmarka area.

Fab first episode Martin, really enjoyed that. Bacon, Bacon then absolutely more Bacon 😅. A ropey start with the weather but looks to be picking up nicely pal. 👌 thanks buddy. P.S. I'm looking for a decent water proof Jacket and remembered you talking about your green one, do you happy to have a link pal
Hi, great review. I’ve seen some ford ranger vids with the roof tent on the rear canopy of the truck, would this be an option for you, depending on canopy weight limits etc?
Had thought of that but it’s not possible due to weight.
DIY Packraft Atlin Model is designed for bikerafting with a larger square nose.
Looks very nice. Do you know if MRS has plans to sell those to the wide audience at some point, or they are still experimenting?
They are available on request.
@@Vildmark How does that work, do you contact the distributor store staff? I mean, there are multiple MRS distributors (like microrafting in the US), but taking customized orders for models that even aren't on their website is probably a feature of just few of them?
@some_developer in the US contact Microrafting and mention that you’ve spoken to martin at vildmark.co.uk and asked about having a nomad xl made
@@Vildmark Aha, thanks a lot!
Hi great vid first timer just what need purchased the sigma from your link for me and my husky 😊
Great. Let us see some photos on Instagram. @vildmark.co.uk
Hi. You briefly mentioned, but didn't show. Does your unit show when it's getting juice from a solar panel. Ive attached my panel, through the input next to the Andeson, as i dont have that connection, and i get no reading at all...
Yes it does, it shows the wattage in

A well presented video. There are many reviews for the S300 on Ytube, unfortunately none of the reviews have yet to show that if you do not charge the S300 for 2 weeks, then you will find a completely dead battery, as the Quiescent current draw is very high. This renders this unit useless as a reliable emergency backup power source. Fully charge the unit & then let it stand for 2 weeks & see what capacity you have left after that time. Its a known to Allpowers fault, that they wont offer a fix for, which is a shame as the build quality & options this unit offers is very good for the price.
That is something I have just noticed as well
I bought mine, left it for 12 days and it lost 10 percent, so I can kinda believe that.
Hello! How is ventilation and do you still recommend these bad boys?💪🏼
There’s no real ventilation as these are a pure leather boot. Wool socks and dry them out.

No fishing pack rafts?
How much weight can this pack carry?
States up to 25kg
@@Vildmark I read about your 10-day trip in Sweden, was it without hiking or were you able to limit your pack to 25 kg?
@Packraft_Stories it’s with hiking. Pack weight is 17kg
@@Vildmark Wow, that is impressive!
I enjoyed that bro..... What a beautiful part of the world 👌😎
As you, I really enjoy the planning process as well :). Thank you for all the inspiration you provide through your videos! You've also reminded me of what great and magical adventures are to be had in Glaskogens Naturrreservat (where I basically spent a Summer a long time ago) via your videos, as well as all this interesting and insightful material you've released on the topic of packrafting. I'm aiming to try packrafting out in the Summer (in Tiveden, Sweden) and then decide on what gear to get. You seem very happy with your MRS Microraft and The Flex PR packraft bag. I am looking to see what options there are for a "raftpack"/"packraft" bag here in Sweden. So far, I've lucked out but I am hoping I'll be able to get better answers in the coming months.
Maybe I should add as well that weather here in mid-Sweden has been sunny and warm basically the last two weeks. Here's hoping you'll be able to soak up some sun when you get here and that the bug-situation won't be too bad.
Thank you so much for the reply and thank you for becoming a patreon. There are a few Swedish Packrafting companies and groups on Facebook. I’ll send you the details to them when I get the chance. Packrafting is a great sport for the Swedish environment, just wish I lived there permanently. The MRS Microraft is a great packraft and many people in Sweden / Norway use these.
@@Vildmark Thank you :)
There is a german company called current-raft, they have also specific bike rafting model(s).
What brand is your PFD? Make and model if you can please. Hard to locate here 🇨🇦. Good idea about using an emergency blanket. I will too going fwd
Those are not made and tbh not recommended after I’ve used it for a while. I have since found the buoy boy by Anfibio which is perfect. ruclips.net/video/ydMdA8rGeMM/видео.htmlsi=qvJHA3pPvqQ5qa1z www.packrafting-store.de/?wsa=cj1bi35ed12fd
Well what can you say about that, everyone loves a gear load out vid, thanks for sharing this with us, must have take a bit of time to put all that lot together and add all the links below, looking forward to the video thatll be coming in the future off the back of this one
A little flask for nightcaps? 😀 hope its a fun trip.
Oh yeah. Forgot to add that I decant a bottle of rum into a plastic bottle to save weight.
Next to going on a trip I get a lot of enjoyment planning and getting kit ready for the trip. Looking forward to your adventure. Thanks Jim
For me the same! It’s perfect for the cold dark winter nights, researching, planning and preparing.
Where is the carpark mate?
Bottom of glen etive
@@Vildmark thank you
Don’t buy this against the rain. It’s worthless.
Great video! We have a big question for our next bikepacking trip or Bikerafting trip...We have to decide between a MRS Microraft or Anfibio Rebel 2K? We know that there are some packrafts like the Caribou designed for this adventure but we have to choose between Micro and Rebel 2k. Both with sprydeck, 840d at the bottom...What do you think? thank you!
Rebel 2k is lighter, if you’re picking internal storage then the Anfibio method is a lot better than the tizip. Never tried a bike on either as there not designed for that shape of load but many people do use them like this.
It this zip worth it?? Is seems to create a very weak point and possibly shorten the life of the raft
Very tricky question to answer. It is worth it, it won’t shorten the life of the raft as when it fails you just replace the zip.
I'd love to try this packraft, but apparently Anfibio ships to everywhere but the U.S.
Have you asked them.
@@Vildmark Sent an RFI yesterday, no reply as of yet.
Yeah, they can't do U.S./Canadian shipping due to insurance. They did provide a potential workaround with some kind of alternate shipping service. I imagine buyer assumes all risk at that point though. Kind of ridiculous that they can ship to Iran "safely" but not the North American continent.
@@ryanbird5142 Did you buy one? Im in US too but like the idea of this raft.
@@curtisheyman4473 No sir, for the risk involved etc, im just getting the Alpacka Forager. Its a proven system, its made here and despite being a little more expensive at least I dont have to worry about it being lost in shipping between mainland Europe and the U.S. from a 3rd party mistake.
Can you use the heated water for coffee or to go inside one of those meals that require hot water? Or is ir contaminated by the chemical reaction inside the bag?
Contaminated
Great video. Not sure about the calamari mind you
How do i find exactly those "elastic bungees"? What are they called?
I sell them. £15.00 for a pair delivered Uk £20.00 eu. Email me at martin@vildmark.co.uk for further info.
You have a nice collection haha 😁👍🏼
Packrafting is an amazing hobby! 😁👍🏼
Fantastic video, really enjoyed that Martin, top stuff
Yeah I've heard it was a bit dodgy in the hole. Think I'll pass a visit too. There's better places to see Martin isn't there.
A full English and toast along with a brew! I'm sold, they deserve a sub 😅. Top video matey 👍
Cheers pal! See in learning the Bolton slang!
@Vildmark We'll have you converted yet! Although if you can get me a job down Norfolk/Suffolk then I'll happy start speaking East Country 😂
A great pack, this isn't the Singi Stubben - just the 'Stubben'. The Singi version is the new version and nowhere near as nice 👍
Yeah I prefer this model. The orange interior really works.
Would you put a bike on it?
In a nutshell no, many people do but I prefer to use equipment that is designed specifically for the task. The Alpacka Carribou is designed to carry a bike. It has an upturned bow, fixings for straps in the correct place for a bike and the bike sits perfect on it. Many people use the Microraft for a bike but I’d prefer to use the correct gear. Here’s the caribou in use: ruclips.net/video/JmMEKeX117w/видео.htmlsi=134gdZnspe3FwoMQ
@@Vildmark Thanks for reply. Something to ponder on😊😊
I am looking forward to a few days at 3rivers in June. I'm glad the pubs up and running after the flooding, my dog always takes me there.
Brilliant campsite and great access to the river.
I so have to explore the Weaveney again, used to fish it when I lived near Diss. So when fishing season opens any planned fishing lessons for one Simon, A bloke in the woods?
Simon isn’t that keen on fishing
Locks inn... One of my fave places on the Broads. Thanks for a great video again. I can't wait for the fishing season to start so I can go after them chub and perch on the Waveney from my packraft.
Some great areas near there for perch.
No Kokopelli?
Never tried them. Perhaps that’s one to tryout
Do you know what the weight capacity numbers mean exactly? I ordered the Anfibio Sigma TXLB+ yesterday. It supposedly has a weight capacity of 200 kg (or 130 kg with the self-bailer Venturi funnel opened), however, if I roughly estimate the total volume of the air chambers, it should have more than 200 l displacement even in an emergency situation with the raft filled up with water to the brim, the buoyancy of the multi-mat floor not even included. I can only guess that the capacity numbers are calculated for a certain design water line, however, a calm lake and white water are different animals. So what's your take on weight capacity? At what point are they only recommendations and when does it actually get critical? Is there any reason not to slightly exceed the numbers e.g. on a calm lake or for short river crossings? What exactly is the risk? Sinking or just getting a bit more wet? Especially the 130 kg with self-bailing seem a bit low and I don't understand what would happen. Maybe weight capacity would be a great topic for a dedicated video(?). Thanks for the video. Liked and subscribed.
The 130kg (I’m guessing) is due to the pressure required to open the self bailer allowing water to flood into cockpit. As with the other numbers I’m not sure, I’ll hazard a guess that after that the packraft won’t be stable or handle very well.
Total respect to you for the job you do, hopefully you got some chill time
Thanks.
Looks like covehithe
Good guess

Hi, really enjoyed this series on the Waveney, I,m planning a trip next month by canoe for scole to oulten broad and beyond next month but I’m struggling to find a decent canoe guide for the upper part of the river. Any advice would be welcome, thanks
Don’t know any guides up that way. It’s easy to navigate.
Many, many years ago my grandad had been fishing with lug of the harbour and had no luck and went home(Norwich). My uncle returned home after work and asked how he got on and was told"no luck but I have 6 lug left" you didn't throw nothing away back then. Uncle decided to go back to Gorleston with the lug, walked past and asked the other fishermen if there's caught anything and the replies were "no". He went to end and with 6 lug he left with 6 cod not codling. He loves to tell that tale 🤣
